About Carnegie Hall

Built by steel magnate and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in 1891, Carnegie Hall rapidly developed an international reputation as one of the greatest concert halls in the world. From Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, Mahler, and Bartók to George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, Judy Garland, Count Basie, The Beatles, and Frank Sinatra, the Hall has been an aspirational destination for an honor roll of music-making artists throughout the decades. Since that time, the Hall has become a cherished and well-known part of America’s cultural landscape, appearing by name or view in numerous movies, novels, plays, magazine covers, television shows, cartoons, and more.

Since 1960, the building—a City, State, and National historic landmark, located on the corner of West 57th Street and Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan—has been owned by the City of New York and operated as the non-profit Carnegie Hall Corporation.   The Hall today presents a wide range of exceptional performances each season, including citywide festivals featuring collaborations with leading New York City cultural institutions; series curated by leading artists and composers; and extraordinary performances on its three stages from orchestral concerts, chamber music, contemporary offerings, and recitals to jazz, world, and popular music. Complementing its performance activities, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute creates extensive music education and social impact programs that annually serve more than 600,000 people worldwide—including students, educators, young aspiring musicians, families, and music lovers from all walks of life—playing a central role in fulfilling Carnegie Hall's commitment to making great music accessible to as many people as possible.  For more information, visit carnegiehall.org.
