ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) will present the popular Canadian sitcom Schitt’s Creek together with its portfolio at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas this June, in response to huge market demand from the continuously building audience around the world. The series has had an overwhelming interest from international licensees and new licensed products will come to the US market from summer 2019.
Created and produced by Daniel Levy and his father Eugene Levy, the series follows a wealthy family who lose their fortune and are forced to relocate to a rundown motel in the small town of Schitt’s Creek. Season 5 began airing in January 2019 and Season 6 is currently in production. The show has won 11 Canadian Screen Awards amongst other accolades and is picking up a growing audience of cult fans due to its own brand of quirky humour. The stellar cast includes Eugene Levy (American Pie) as Jonny Rose, Catherine O’Hara (Home Alone, Beetlejuice) as Moira Rose, Daniel Levy as David Rose, Annie Murphy (Beauty and the Beast, Rookie Blue) as Alexis Rose and Chris Elliot (Everybody Loves Raymond, There’s Something About Mary) as Roland Schitt.
Schitt’s Creek, now in its fifth season, airs on CBC in Canada and Pop in the US as well as being a popular hit on Netflix in the US, UK, Eire, Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Japan.
The first M&L products launching are Rizzoli, with calendars for 2020, Hi-Line with the live tour merchandise, and a direct-to-consumer strand to the programme, with UGC fan art available through Redbubble and other online retailers. Additional categories are currently under discussion, including Softlines, Gifting, Home & Bath, and Collectibles, with designs reflecting the show’s signature humour and drawing on the smart and witty writing by using lines from key characters.
ITVS GE will be showcasing Schitt’s Creek at the Vegas Licensing Expo (Stand L204) to discuss further opportunities for the merchandise programme.
